Yeah, well. No topography, no real turns, everyone is from somewhere else. It’s a demographic and automotive shitshow.

Also, I believe they guarantee an RX350 doing 20 under in the left lane on I-95 in Boca.

If you go by insurance rates, Florida doesn’t even make the top 10 :

They probably think the signs are in kilometres.
Also, wouldn’t they be from Quebce and not Quebec?

Well over here those plates on a Toyota or a F150 is a good indication that he/she will cut you off for no apparent reason
If they are on a dodge ram you also get the middle finger from them while they are cutting you off

Michigan’s rates are so high because we have unlimited medical coverage for drivers injured in an accident. Accidents and injuries are down, but insurance costs are up. Medical places here milk that shit for every cent too.

In Canada, it’s either QC (although those are rare in my neck of the woods) or these motherfuckers;
Honourable mention to the official plate of taking up two parking spaces at Ikea because they don’t have one in their province;

I see a lot of Ontario plates around here, usually doing 10 under the limit in the middle lane.

Ours are these:
Although our local drivers are straight garbage as well, if not worse in many cases, I know what to expect with the local ones to some extent. We also get Oregonians, which are slightly worse than the locals. Kind of a hierarchy.

This only says that the regulatory environment in some places sucks.
Also, I don’t know how CA could possibly be in the top-10 unless they cherry-picked the Bay Area where everyone has expensive cars and national insurance companies kind of suck there. My rates doubled coming from SoCal to the Seattle area with the same car and coverage...
It might tell us something about 40-year-old male drivers with “good” records in these places, though.

In Florida the worst drivers have tags from Quebec, New York, and Massholes. Massholes are the worst.

No, it’s a reflection of both the drivers and the regulatory environment. If you want to take the regulatory environment out of the numbers, we can refer back to the IIHS Fatality Facts Sheet .
Top 10 States by Fatal Crashes per 100,000 population :
Mississippi - 23.1
Alabama - 21.3
South Carolina - 20.5
New Mexico - 19.3
Wyoming - 19.1
Kentucky - 18.8
Arkansas - 18.2
Montana - 18.2
Oklahoma - 17.4
Louisiana - 16.2
Florida is number 13 on that list with a rate of 15.4. I thought this might be due to a higher fatality rate in more rural areas, but when I look their Urban vs Rural table, only three states appear in the top 10 on both the S tate and Rural lists: Mississippi, Montana, and Wyoming. The others have relatively higher fatality rates in urban areas. Both Louisiana and Florida have more fatal crashes in urban areas than rural. Go figure.
Your rates doubled going from SoCal to where?

Western WA, Seattle area.
I had actually just looked at that list and didn’t see a strong correlation between fatal accidents and rates. The methodology of the initial list you provided is so poor as to be meaningless.
“The study was conducted by Quadrant Information Services and was based on auto insurance rates for more than 900 vehicles from six large carriers (Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, Nationwide, Progressive and State Farm) in 10 ZIP codes per state, based on a hypothetical single, 40-year-old male with a good driving record, short commute and typical coverage limits and deductibles.”
The IIHS list is decent because it doesn’t really infer anything, but which of the two methodologies you use give you very unexpected results, like the fact that Massachusetts and Rhode Island, known for their awful drivers, have the lowest fatality rates per 100M miles traveled in the country. The worst is apparently South Carolina, which also makes no sense to me. Wyoming is just slightly worse than average by this methodology, too, in spite of everyone doing far more miles than in any of these other places.

Unexpected results? Only because the results didn’t meet your expectations. Everywhere I’ve lived the locals bitch about the traffic and the quality of the driving. I used to live in the Houston area, so when people in less populated areas start complaining, I take it all with a big grain of salt. Reputations are built on opinions and the loudest complainers are the ones people usually listen to. I prefer sources that are at least somewhat arbitrary, even if they aren’t perfect.
Insurance rates are really a range which is set by the state with feedback from the insurance carriers. When any particular carrier sets their rates within the range, they do a complex multivariate analysis that takes into account a lot more than age, type of car, sex, accident rates in the state, etc. most people don’t understand this and can’t be bothered with it anyway. The truth is lost on them. I know, I used to be an agent.
My original reply was a tongue-in-cheek stab at the original author. Then you decided to go all data scientist on me. I have to play that in real life, so I try to keep it somewhat light-hearted here on Oppo.
So, you think the drivers are bad where you live?!? Let me tell you about the drivers over here!
